OK I broke it again :) So new theme

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Ok So I broke my blog again and because I didn’t back it up properly before playing I lost most of my customisations!! It even told me I was going to and was I sure!! but because i didn’t think of my hacking and slashings in the code as customisations I didn’t considered the repercussions of not backing up- durrr.

One day I really am going to step off a cliff and go Oh no who would have thought. he he.

So rather than doing everything again I thought I’d start from a theme that is close to what i want and “customise” from there, and I do like this one.

Googles new browser Chrome

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

Well I saw the link to try Googles new beta browser Chrome and had to try it out. So what do I think:

I like some features like when pasting into the address bar their is a right click option of “paste and go”- saves me a click so I’m happy and the I like the overall typical clean Google interface.

But where my Google tool bar? I would have thought this would have been built in. So I thought I’d just go and get it again but when I did -it thought my browser was Firefox!! What you don’t recognize your own browser Google – so I thought oh well we’ll see what happen maybe the Firefox Google tool bar with work with Chrome.

OK I’m obviously no techy but I just want my Google tool bar so I’lll try anything!! But again no I wasn’t going to get my toolbar because it told me I had to upgrade my Firefox!! My Firefox is happy thank you very much and I am not upgarding it!

Considering I was using Googles browser and just wanted the Google tool bar I guested I was asking too much of the beta version oh well :(

Overall at the moment it’s not going to be much use to me if I their aren’t any add-ons but I’m going to leave it on anyway and see how it goes just cause I’m a Google girl :)

Another example of design principles at work

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Here is another site which demonstrates the principles of repetition (especially in the use of colour) to create a unified harmonious look. The Murwillumbah District Plumbing site is not one that you would automatically expect to exhibit a high level of visual design but like the quality of their plumbing work their site is also a quality item.

Domain Buying Scam

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Funny thing this morning I recieved and email stating

“Hello,

The reason I am contacting you is my interest in buying your website – tipsforyourwebsite.com . If you are interested, could you please give me your phone number, so I can call you, or just write me back.
I have cash to buy today!

Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you”

While my first reaction was sweet as show me the money- this only lasted for a few seconds before I thought and why?

The domain name itself isn’t overly special. While the site does have google ads they aren’t making a fortune and are really just for experimentation so this enquiry doesn’t make alot of money.

Is it a scam ? And I displaying typical internet overload paranoia symptoms thinking everything is a scam.

Well I’ll reply and see what happens and let you know but my feeling it is a scam because quite a few other people received the exact same email just name changes.

One scam is that they get you to get an appraisal from a company they own or are close associated with- so you pay to get the appraisal and then never here from them again.

UPDATE:

Well I haven’t heard back from them so I’m obviously not going to retire on the proceeeds of this domain sale but the possibilities of what they may be up to is a bit more clear and I’m glad I was careful and replied from a gmail account because one theory going around is that they are trying to “HiJack” domains. If you reply to them, they obtain header info on your account. This way, they can “clone” you and request domain transfers and who knows what else.
