PHP vs ASP.NET

This is a great article comparing the performance of PHP on Windows and Linux & 5.2 versus 5.3 and asp.net on a Windows server. The testing methodology is very sound and well documented . But what I found just as interesting were the comments and which were well worth read.

When interfaces attack- Developers beware

When designing web interfaces consider the points highlighted in the presentation below which is aimed at developers but the ideas are something we should all be aware of. And remember:

user interface is critical
effectiveness is important, and
people have feelings about software.

Do view it right to the end because it has some great examples of how users scan interfaces.

Today at Kingscliff TAFE we had the opportunity to have the “Worlds best guest speaker” Brendon Sinclair come in and speak about “How the World’s Crappiest Web Designer built a hugely successful web business- And how you can rip off his ideas, experience & knowledge to beat him at his own game” and yes his talk lived up to the hype!!

Every single student found the talk inspiring and inspirational and I can not express my gratitude enough to Brendon for giving his time so generously. If you ever get the opportunity to hear Brendon speak don’t miss the chance to learn something while having a good laugh.
